Location - near the River Trent, Gunthorpe, UK, improvisations with stones, plants and trees live on location. Total duration 31 minutes.
The work consists of a Prelude:
followed by two 'Phases':
1) Stones Intrinsic (18 minutes) - improvisation with stones as primary sound objects and,
2) Stones Extrinsic (12.5 minutes) - improvisations with two to excite other objects,
...and four Movements:
1st Movement - Extensive improvisation with hands and feet, including some thrown stones.
2nd Movement – improv with found plant stem and damp Teasel head, then using two had held stones with dry Teasel plant, Burdock and extensive work with blackberry thorns.
3rd Movement – down the slope into the Hawthorn Grove, extensive improv using hand held stones on twigs and thorns growing on the trees, subtly moving onto Ivy cladding some Hawthorn trees at the end of the movement.
4th Movement - 'Reunion' approaching the River Trent and tossing the stones into the water.
The Phases and Movements flow into each other and there is no clear demarcation. The audio is a continuous crossfaded edit of a live location performance recorded in a single take using custom binaural techniques.
